Wanaka Orchard

Wanaka Orchard is a family run mixed stone fruit orchard. The farm is situated at Oakdale on the southern edge of the Sydney Basin.

Ed and Marilyn Biel have worked the orchard since 1987, that is 26 years now.  Ed spent 15 years as a Police Officer, then 11 years at a chicken processing plant, firstly as the Security Manager and then Logistics, while he studied Horticultural Management externally at Orange Agricultural College.   The land was purchased and the orchard slowly developed from “scratch,” building it a little more each year.

The fruit from Wanaka Orchard is harvested at full maturity for maximum flavour. Chemical sprays are minimised by using an Integrated Pest Management System and biological and organic inputs are used to improve the soil condition; micro nutrients are applied by fertigation using drip irrigation.  By installing full exclusion netting we have minimised damage from hail, Flying Foxes and most recently a Rainbow Lorikeet invasion.

Covid-19 Update 😷

Due to the increasing numbers of COVID infections in the Greater Sydney area and the higher risk for the Liverpool, Fairfield & Canterbury/Bankstown LGAs over the last week, the Board has decided that we as a market will shut for a minimum of 2 weeks being Saturday 31 July 2021 & 7 August 2021

This is to assist in limiting travel between Sydney LGAs of both stallholder and customers.   This should lessen our risk in unknowingly spreading the virus further.

We have operated following all Health Rules and Guidelines but each week the risk increases.

The Board will be monitoring what happens over the next two weeks before making any further decisions,

We wish you all well and thank you for your support to date during these difficult times.
